Researchers can add desirable traits to plants to increase yield and improve disease resistance with CRISPR-Cas9 technology, and changes can be made in as little as a few months, writes Dyllan Furness. Rachel Haurwitz of Caribou Biosciences says the technology raises few concerns because it works within the limits of a plant's own genome.
