The Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission (DG SANTE) has commissioned ICF, an independent consultancy in the UK, and a team of experts to undertake a study on the methods for sampling and analysis of genetically modified (GM) material in food.

The aim of the study was to collect and analyse data on the approaches used in the Member States for sampling and analysis of asynchronous and obsolete GM material in food in order to assess the need for harmonisation. The study covers the period 2009 – 2014.
